About NAREEEAB
Mission
The National Agricultural Research, Extension, Education, and Economics Advisory Board (NAREEEAB) provides advice to the Secretary of Agriculture and land-grant colleges and universities on top priorities and policies for food and agricultural research, education, extension and economics. The Board is made up of 25 members, each of which represents a specific category of U.S. agricultural stakeholders, as mandated by Congress. Member categories include representatives from: farm cooperatives, a national nutritional science society, a national human health association, land-grant institutions, Hispanic-serving institutions, American Colleges of Veterinary Medicine, transportation of food and agricultural products to domestic and foreign markets, a national aquaculture association, national farm organizations, national crop and animal commodity organizations, food retailing and marketing, food and fiber processors, a national forestry group, a national consumer interest group, a national conservation or natural resource group, private sector organizations involved in international development, national social science associations, rural economic development, and a non land-grant college or university.

Many members have diversified expertise and occupations and are well-respected leaders in their respective areas. The Board reflects the broad interests of food, fiber, and agricultural stakeholders nationwide, holds regional and national stakeholder listening sessions, and develops consolidated advice based on stakeholder input that is vital to the current and future success of food, forestry, and agricultural programs.

The NAREEEAB's main objective is to contribute to effective federal agricultural research, education and education programs through broad stakeholder feedback and sound science in its ongoing role as advisor to the Secretary of Agriculture. The Advisory Board also, by mandate, consults with appropriate agricultural committees of the U.S. Congress. All Board meetings are open to the public. For more information on the Board's establishment and mandatory roles, see Legislation or Advisory Board Membership sections on this website.
